Fresherz

Cookie Policy

This page lists every cookie and every piece of browser storage Fresherz actually uses, and what we count when you visit. It is a short list on purpose. We run no advertising cookies. The one outside measurement service we use is Google Analytics, described below. Nothing here is used to show you advertising.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on the next request. "Local storage" is similar, except it stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. We use both, for the small number of things listed below.

Cookies we set

  • fresherz-session — Keeps you signed in. Without it you would have to enter your password on every page. How long: 120 minutes of inactivity Type: Strictly necessary

  • XSRF-TOKEN — Protects against cross-site request forgery — it proves a form was submitted from our own pages and not from a hostile site. How long: Same as the session Type: Strictly necessary

  • NEXT_LOCALE — Remembers that you pressed the বাংলা or English switch, so we do not put you back in the other language next time. How long: One year Type: Preference

The session cookie cannot be read by scripts running in your browser, and it is sent only over an encrypted connection. It is set on .fresherzjob.com so that the website and our servers can recognise the same visit.

We do not guess your language. Almost every phone in Bangladesh reports Bangla whether or not its owner wants to read a job board in Bangla, so we leave you on the page you clicked and only remember a choice you made yourself.

Things we keep in your browser (not cookies)

  • fresherz.session — A note of whether you are signed in, so that signing out in one tab signs you out in the others. Where: Local storage

  • fresherz:last-login — Which method you used to sign in last time — password or Google — so we can put it first. Where: Local storage

  • fresherz.console.toggled — Remembers your interface layout preferences. Set only for signed-in staff accounts. Where: Local storage

  • Sign-up prompt counters — How many pages you have read, so we show a sign-up prompt once and not again. Where: Session storage, cleared when you close the tab

None of this is sent to us or to anybody else. It lives in your browser and clearing your browsing data removes it.

Counting visits

We count visits in two ways: our own count, which uses no cookie, and Google Analytics, which does. Our own count is described first; Google Analytics has its own section below.

When you open a page we record, on our own servers: the address of the page in a generalised form (a candidate's profile is recorded as /p/:id rather than whose profile it was; for a listing, a company page or an article we also note which one, because those pages are public), the language you were reading, the country and the kind of device your browser reports, the website that linked you to us if any, the campaign name if the link you followed carried one, and whether the page loaded successfully.

How we count people without knowing who they are. We do not store your IP address against a page view. Instead we combine your address and browser description with a secret value that we change every day, and keep only the one-way fingerprint that comes out. It cannot be turned back into your address, and because the secret changes daily, the fingerprint from today cannot be matched to the one from yesterday. This is how we can say "so many people visited" without building a record of any one person.

How long: individual page views are deleted after 90 days. Daily totals — how many views and how many people, per day — are kept after that, and they are counts with nobody inside them.

Our own count stays on our servers, it is used to decide what to build next, and it is never combined with your account, your applications or your profile.

Google Analytics

We also use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how Fresherz is used and to improve it. A script from Google runs on every page and records which pages you view and how long you stay, your device, browser and screen size, your approximate location (city and country, worked out from your IP address), your language and the website that linked you to us. The address and title of each page are sent to Google, and the address of a public profile includes its owner's name. We do not send Google your name, email address or anything else from your account, and we do not use Google Analytics for advertising. We ask Google to shorten your IP address, and Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google processes this data outside Bangladesh; how Google uses information from sites that use its services is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

  • _ga — Set by Google Analytics so that it can tell one browser from another and count a return visit as the same visitor. How long: Two years Type: Analytics
  • _ga_WER98W2CD0 — Set by Google Analytics to keep track of your current visit to Fresherz. How long: Two years Type: Analytics

To opt out, block these cookies in your browser, use a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out add-on from tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Fresherz works exactly the same without them.

Emails

Some of our emails — at the moment, the reminders to finish your profile — contain a small invisible image (sometimes called a tracking pixel) and links that pass through our own server first. They tell us whether that email was opened and whether its button was pressed, and when; nothing else is recorded, and no cookie is set. Every reminder carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and you can switch reminders off in your notification settings.

Third parties

If you choose Sign in with Google, Google sets its own cookies on accounts.google.com during the sign-in. That is Google's page and Google's policy, not ours. If a company has embedded a video on its page, the video host may set cookies when you play it.

Controlling cookies

Your browser can block or delete cookies. Blocking the two strictly necessary ones will stop you signing in — there is no way around that, because they are the sign-in. Blocking the language cookie only means we forget your language choice. Blocking the Google Analytics cookies changes nothing about how Fresherz works for you.

Why there is no cookie banner

We do not show a cookie banner. Most of what we set is necessary to run the service or records a choice you made yourself, and our own visit count stores nothing on your device. The Google Analytics cookies are the exception: they are set when you visit, without asking first. If you would rather not have them, block them in your browser or use Google's opt-out add-on described above — nothing on Fresherz depends on them. If we ever add a cookie used for advertising, we will update this page and ask you before we set it.

Changes to this policy

We describe what Fresherz does today. If any of it changes we will update this page and change the date at the top, and where the change is significant we will tell you rather than expecting you to come back and check.
